Top 3 Most Effective Abdominal Exercises

June 15, 2009 by admin

The quest to have the most perfect body is one that thousands of people start each and every year. There just seems to be more and more pressure to look more attractive and thin that people are almost forced to start looking after themselves. Many have surgery and take the shortcut to losing weight. But for the ones who cannot afford it, they look towards exercising and diet.

For many it is having a slimmer body, so they concentrate on the stomach area and chest. The quest for the six pack is one that many people start but give up half way through. This is because it really does take effort and hard work to get them.

For those looking to tone up their abs, here are the top 3 most effective abdominal exercises:

Exercise #1 – The Crunch

The crunch, or basic sit up, is by far the most common of all abs exercises. It’s a simple one to perform but also very effective. Just lie on your back and bend your legs slightly. Then put your hands behind your head and lift up your upper body, then lower it again. Aim to do 10-15 reps before resting and repeating.

Exercise #2 – Captains Chair

This exercise can be done on the special piece of equipment or alternatively on a couple of sturdy chairs. You basically support your entire body by holding onto the chair or chairs so that your legs are dangling down. Then lift up your knees so that they become horizontal, then lower them again. This can also be done by hanging off a chin up bar.

Exercise #3 – Bicycle Crunch

This is a twist on the normal crunch. Instead of keeping your legs still, straighten out your left leg and bring your right knee in towards the body. Twist your upper body so the opposing elbow reaches towards your knee. Then repeat with the other leg. Do 10-15 reps before resting and repeating.

These are by far the most effective abdominal exercises you can do from the comfort of your own home.
